I’m outstanding too!

WRITTEN BY AARON M. BROWN

Charlie has a rough day and comes home from school feeling frustrated and angry. When Dad comes home from work covered in ink and bird poo and smelling like a skunk, Mom and Charlie are surprised to find him whistling and in a great mood. Dad proceeds to tell them about his crazy day, and Charlie is inspired by his example to keep a positive attitude no matter what.

Peek into the process

Exploration

Here are the character explorations for Dad, Mom, and Charlie. We played around with different styles and ethnicities which was fun to explore. Below is the final line-up of the characters.

Layout Sketches

After establishing the characters and doing thumbnaill sketches, I went through and refined the layouts for the scenes. Here are a couple of the final sketches before going to color.

Final Illustrations

Below are some of the finished illustrations. This was such a fun book to illustrate, especially the silly scenes of Dad.
